FTA NEWSLETTER – AUG 2019
From the FTA President:
Well the 2019 Grand American is behind us, hopefully a good time was had by all.
The Florida picnic was well attended. Pulled pork was smoked by Tom and Karen Harrington, it was fantastic ! Jake and Sarah supplied some great baked beans and coleslaw, and Jake cooked some great hot dogs. We also had some great “Indiana Sweet Corn”.
If you were unable to attend you need to put it on your calendar for next year.
We had great weather this year with very little rain, birds were fine, just couldn’t figure out how to break very many .
If you haven’t gone lately you need to give it a try, there is only one Grand American with a 3.25 mile trap line….
Hope you’ve got the FTA fall shoot on your calendar Nov. 7th-10th at the Silver Dollar.

President Florida Trap Shooters Assoc.
From the ATA Delegate:
Well folks, the 2019 Grand American is in the books! Florida shooters brought their “A” game and walked away with several trophies. I will highlight them in my October column in Trap and Field.
It was an honor to represent Florida during the Southern Zone and ATA Board of Directors meetings. It was truly a great experience and I am hopeful that you will continue to allow me to represent you in the future!
Overall the ATA is in great shape. As an organization we threw over 56,000,000 registered targets during the target year! The NSSA and NSCA combined only threw 36,000,000 targets to put that number into perspective. Grand attendance was up about 3% at the time of our meeting. The AIM program is growing and having a very positive impact on the ATA. So much so that approximately 41% of active ATA members are 23 years old or younger. For the first time in the history of the World Shooting and Recreational Complex, the IDNR has secured a yearly budget from the state of Illinois for maintaining and upgrading the facilities which is very exciting.
Next up on the ATA calendar is National Trapshooting Day which will be on October 12th and 13th! I hope everyone can get out to a participating club and help continue the prosperity of our organization!
If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out to me at trh.trap@gmail.com.
Until then, shoot straight!
Thomas Harrington
